How to Stretch Your Beret

To achieve the perfect fit, gently stretch your beret using the following steps:

  1. Manual Stretching: Firmly grasp the beret and gently pull it between your hands, rotating it as you pull.
  2. Repeat if Necessary: If needed, repeat the stretching until you reach the desired size. Note that once stretched, the beret cannot be shrunk.

Laulhère (beret master since 1840) explains that its one-size berets are made from naturally stretchable wool, allowing them to adapt to the vast majority of head sizes. Their recommended range for one-size models is approximately 55 to 60 cm, and the opening can be gently stretched by hand to adjust it progressively to the wearer’s head.

The brand itself recommends holding the beret firmly with both hands and gently stretching the edge while rotating it, little by little, until the desired fit is reached (as seen in the picture)

That said, if your head circumference is below 55 cm or your partner’s is above 60 cm, Laulhère does recommend choosing one of its models available in specific sizes instead. But we won’t have it in the US.
