When it comes to ecology, everyone moves at their own pace.
Indeed, who has not asked himself about these infinite plastics that sprinkle our daily lives?
Is there really anything we can do to avoid a mountain of plastic bags when we come back from the supermarket? Oranges are packed in their own plastic bags, tomatoes, avocados, lemons, zucchini and so on... We end up having a ton of useless plastic bags at home. This raises an issue of conscience and a desire of having a better impact for our environment…
- 40% of plastic produced is packaging, used once and then thrown away
- 73% of beach litter worldwide is plastic
- 90% of all birds and fish have plastic particles in their stomach
Then, they created essential products to use in our day-to-day life and make the first step easier for low-waste living. So now, we have options…
What does it mean? Now you have opportunities to reduce your plastic consumption with a limited effort.
Here are few ideas:
1) Use reusable bags for shopping
Knowing that it takes 1,000 years for a plastic bag to degrade… You will be happy to use 100% cotton reusable bags, and go to the fruit and vegetable shelves of your supermarket or choose to use these bags to buy your cereals and rice, in bulk.
2) Use reusable bottles
By taking the reusable bottle with you during the day, you avoid a large number of plastic cups used at the water dispenser.
3) Use a metal straw
With this one, you can have your fresh drink at the Starbucks and refuse a straw (that you would have thrown away 5 minutes later, anyway). When you see the number of New Yorkers walking on the street with Latte or cold brew in their hand, you can easily imagine the fabulous impact that these reusable straws can have.
4) Bring your own cutlery for lunch
Whether you bring your own meal at the office or buy it to go, plastic forks, knives, spoons and chopsticks will not be invited to your table. With a bamboo utensil set, you will always be ready and it is so much better.
5) Carry your sandwiches without plastic
By wrapping your sandwiches in Bees wrap, perfectly adapted to edible foods, they will keep their freshness. This will save you from single-use aluminum or plastic wrap that transmits particles to foods.
6) Keep your food fresh
You can also use these Bees wraps, to cover your dishes going to the fridge or wrap your fruits and vegetables that you want to keep fresh there.
With these simple actions, you will already reduce your plastic waste in a great way and will not have to throw again and again tons of plastic bags, accumulated in your kitchen cupboard.
And what about you? What habits have you changed to have a positive environmental impact on the planet?
