Petit Beurre, or Véritable Petit Beurre is a biscuit from Nantes, the best known of which in France is the Petit Beurre from the LU company, which has become a worldwide success. This dry cake was invented in 1886 by Louis Lefèvre-Utile, in Nantes, inspired by the English productions of the time.
The story of Lu began 170 years ago, in 1846 to be exact, in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) where Jean-Romain Lefèvre and his wife Pauline-Isabelle Utile had just settled down to take over the pastry shop "La fabrique de cookies". The success is immediate, and forerunners, the two young spouses invent marketing before the time by renaming their company LU, the two initials of their name. The LU brand was officially born. But it was not until the second generation that the famous Petit Beurre came out of the oven. Its inventor: Louis, the youngest of three children, who took over the family business and was already thinking ahead.
Since then, Lu has become an iconic French brand appreciated by all. From breakfast to snack time, Lu is part of the French people's daily life.
